Dr. Amer Ahmad Sharif
Dr. Amer Ahmad Sharif is the Vice Chancellor of Mohammed Bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences (MBRU). Additionally, he is the Chair of the Dubai Covid-19 Command and Control Center.
He was also recently appointed as a member of the Advisory Board of the Center of the 4th Industrial Revolution in the UAE.
Dr. Sharif has completed his medical training (MBBS) and holds a (PhD) in Public Health from the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, UAE University and has obtained his (MSc) degree in Healthcare Management from the Royal College of Surgeons of Ireland (RCSI). He is the first graduate and UAE national to receive the RCSI’s “Positive Global Impact Award” for his role in establishing MBRU.
Dr. Sharif has extensive experience in the UAE healthcare system. In the past he has held multiple instrumental roles in Dubai Health Authority (DHA) and his research has been around the challenges and reforms within the UAE health system and future directions. As Vice Chancellor, he has guided the University since inception. He focused on strengthening collaborations with international academic institutions such as Queen’s University Belfast (QUB), one of the U.K.’s leading research-intensive universities. He also played a vital role in MBRU’s recognition by the world’s largest organization of surgeons, the American College of Surgeons, who recognized MBRU as the 1st Comprehensive Education Institute in the UAE.
Dr. Sharif’s role has broadened the reach of MBRU who aspires to set change in the landscape of healthcare in the UAE through an innovative and integrated academic health system, that is nationally responsive and globally connected, serving individuals and communities.

Under his leadership, MBRU has grown from one college to three, Hamdan Bin Mohammed College of Dental Medicine, the College of Medicine, and the College of Nursing and Midwifery.
As a values-driven leader, Dr. Sharif ensures that MBRU’s faculty and staff live out the five core values of the university: integrity, respect, excellence, giving, and connectivity. MBRU ensures to extend its value-system to its incoming students and alumni.
He is also a Visiting Scholar at the Thomas Jefferson University – Sidney Kimmel Medical College – Center for Research in Medical Education & Health Care.

Dr. Sharif’s research interest is in Public Health, Public Health and Education, Financing health care in the UAE and Health care challenges and reforms in the UAE.
