About the Program

Research in GME is a collaborative program between GME and Deanship of Research and Graduate Studies.
As a trainee in GME, you are required to complete a research project individually or with a group. This process will involve selecting a research topic, collecting and analyzing data and writing a manuscript for publication. Whether you are an intern, resident or fellow you will have the proper guidance throughout your training.

Message from the Dean of Research and Graduate Studies

Message from the Dean of Research and Graduate Studies:

Dear Doctors,

As you continue your journey in our GME training programs, I want to emphasize an important aspect of your training that holds the potential to shape not only your individual careers but also the landscape of medical knowledge – research.

As the Dean of Research and Graduate Studies, I encourage each one of you to consider how research can be integrated into your Training experience. Research is the backbone of medical progress. It allows us to question, investigate, and innovate in healthcare. Choosing a research topic is your first step. Consider your interests, clinical experiences, and the questions that intrigue you. Seek guidance from mentors and colleagues to refine your idea. You will learn how to write a thorough research proposal and gather accurate and meaningful data while maintaining patient confidentiality and adhering to ethical guidelines. Once you have collected your data, our biostatistician will help you choose the best statistical analysis methods. Our curriculum includes workshops on creating impactful presentations and writing research papers for publication. We encourage you to present your work at conferences and contribute to the scientific community.

Research is not just a requirement; it’s a transformative experience that can shape your future in medicine. By following our research curriculum, you’ll gain the knowledge and skills needed to contribute to medical advancements and provide the best care to your patients. We look forward to supporting you on this exciting journey of discovery and growth during your GME Training.

I look forward to witnessing your growth as both clinicians and researchers. Your dedication to advancing medical knowledge is what makes our program exceptional.

Wishing you success and fulfillment in your research endeavors.

Warm regards,
Professor Stefan du Plessis
