Dr. Athanasios E. Athanasiou is Dean, Professor and Program Director of Orthodontics, Hamdan Bin Mohammed College of Dental Medicine, Mohammed Bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences, Dubai, United Arab Emirates.  He was President of the World Federation of Orthodontists, the European Federation of Orthodontics and the Greek Orthodontic Society. He served as Dean of the School of Dentistry as well as Professor and Chairman of Orthodontics, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Thessaloniki, Greece.

Dr. Athanasiou served as Associate Professor and Coordinator of Postgraduate Orthodontic Education, Royal Dental College, Aarhus University, Aarhus, Denmark. He has supervised 55Ph.D. and Master’s dissertations, and has presented more than 430 lectures, papers and seminars in 49 countries.

He has published more than 170 scientific articles, chapters and books [“Orthodontic Cephalometry”, London, Mosby-Wolfe, 1995, 1997; “Risk Management in Orthodontics: Experts’ Guide to Malpractice”, Chicago, Quintessence, 2004; “Orthodontic Postgraduate Education: A Global Perspective”, New York, Thieme, 2015].   He serves as referee or member of the editorial board in many scientific journals including the American Journal of Orthodontics & Dentofacial Orthopedics, Angle Orthodontist, European Journal of Orthodontics, Clinical Orthodontics and Research, and Journal of Orthodontics. 

Professor Athanasiou has served as external examiner or referee at the Royal College of Surgeonsof Edinburgh, the College of Dental Surgeons of Hong Kong, the King Abdulaziz University, theUniversity of Hong Kong, the University of Pretoria, the University of Limpopo, the Arab American University, the Council for the Order of Australia, the University of Jordan and the University of Sydney.
