Is the MBBS program recognized internationally?

MBRU is accredited locally by Commission for Academic Accreditation (CAA) and is listed by the World Health Organization (WHO). We currently have the American and Canadian recognition and working on more recognition from other boards.

How can I find out the status of my application in MBBS program?

Does the University provide accommodation?

MBRU does not provide direct accommodation to students. However, we have negotiated on behalf of the students with several private providers. Complete information can be found here

What are the scholarship opportunities of MBBS program for students of MBRU?

MBRU is keen to attract talented students and support their educational journey. Aligned with our value of giving, we have established two scholarship programs.  Complete information regarding those programs is available here.

Applicants can be self-funded or come with their own external scholarship funds too. We do not offer full scholarship.

How much is the tuition fees of the MBBS program?

The annual tuition fee is AED 160,000. This is payable in two installments, by the beginning of each semester, either by cheque or bank transfer.

What does the interview process comprise of for MBBS program?

Candidates will not be offered a place at MBRU without going through the MMI process. We do not offer Skype, telephone or video-linked interviews.

What happens after I submit my application for MBBS program?

Please note that for your application to be considered, you have to complete the online application, upload the required documents, and pay the application fee. An experienced panel of MBRU faculty and staff will then review completed applications against our published minimum requirements. Qualified short-listed candidates will be invited for on-campus multiple mini-interviews (MMI) planned for late February. Candidates who are not invited for interviews will be notified at that time with a regret notice.

Interviewed applicants will then be ranked by the admission team based on their academic qualifications and interview performance. Ranked applicants will be sent conditional offers by end of March.

I applied to MBRU last year but wasn’t offered a position. Can I re-apply?

Yes, we will consider a new application as if it was the first.

What are the application requirements for MBBS program?

The minimum requirements for admission are outlined online here. Please note that these are minimum requirements and many applicants achieve higher scores than specified.

How can I apply to the MBBS program?

Application to the MBBS program can only be submitted through our online application portal. Application to the program opens on October 15 2019 and closes on January 15 2020. Late applications received after the deadline will not be considered.

For your application to be complete, you will need to submit the online application here, upload all supporting documents, and pay the non-refundable application fee of AED 1,050 (AED 1000 + 5% VAT).

How many students does MBRU plan to accept to the MBBS program?

MBRU plans to offer 70 students. Of the 70 planned offers, 50 will be available to all nationalities (UAE and non-UAE) and 20 additional offers will be slotted for qualified UAE nationals. Admission to the MBBS program is competitive. In the past few years, about 1 in 5 applicants were offered a position.

How long is the duration of the MBBS program?

The duration of the program is six years.

How can I get feedback on the status of my master in Nursing application?

Undergraduate studies performance, letters of recommendation, previous academic and professional experience are the main criteria for evaluation

Please note that for your application to be considered, you have to complete the online application, upload the required documents, and pay the application fee.  An experienced panel of MBRU faculty and staff will then review completed applications and will shortlist qualified candidates. Shortlisted candidates will be invited for interviews. Selection will be based on the applicant’s academic and professional credentials as well as performance in the interview. What documents do I need to upload as part of my master in Nursing application?

As part of your application, you will need to upload clear color copies of your personal and academic documents in a PDF format. A list of required documents is available here

Why study MSc in Nursing at MBRU?

Nursing is essentially about meeting the needs of patients and their families and education programs for nurses fosters the continued development of critical thinking skills to enable the registered nurse to respond to the health care requirements of patients and their families. Postgraduate programs of study for nurses are designed to enable registered nurses to build on their existing knowledge and nurture the skills necessary to potentially move towards a specialist clinical nursing role and provide individual options as their nursing career continues to develop. The College of Nursing and Midwifery, MBRU has a unique partnership with Queen’s University of Belfast and the Belfast Health and Social Care Trust. The College of Nursing and Midwifery MBRU have formed a unique international academic, scholarly and clinical relationship that underpins our two MSc programs. The MSc Cardiovascular and Pediatric nursing include specialist and core courses/modules that are delivered for our students by esteemed academics from the two universities; and to support the internationalization of these two programs prospective students will have the opportunity to undertake a twelve week period of clinical nursing practice in the Belfast Health and Social Care Trust and provide nursing care supervised by a specialist nurse.

Endodontics Residency Program

Are stipends available?

Postgraduate students are not eligible for stipends.

How many students are admitted to the MBRU Endodontic Residency Program?

Maximum two students per program per cohort.

What curriculum will be taught in this program?

The Saudi Board of Endodontic Program Curriculum is the official curriculum for this program. Details of the curriculum can be found here 

How this program is different from the Master of Science in Endodontics?

The MBRU Endodontic residency program is accredited by the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCFHS). Therefore, residents are eligible to take the Saudi Endodontic Board examination. The Saudi Specialty Certificate in Endodontics issued by the SCFHS is recognized by the UAE PQR as Tier 2 qualification.

FAQs for prospective students

Will the student residences remain open during summer, and how would they implement physical distancing?

Answers and information pertaining to residences could be sought from accommodation providers.

Can we view the accommodation online? How can we contact the accommodation supervisor?

Yes. The shared links and information on housing include contact details, emails and links to tour the facilities. You have already received links to the different recommended private student accommodations.

If this situation continues, are you going to run Student Council Elections next year? Can we join as new students?

Student Council elections will be arranged online like any other activity and details will be announced by the Student Services and Registration Department. Students in their first year will be eligible to apply for the elections.

 Are we going to be tested for COVID-19 upon joining or do we need to do that on our own?

We will notify you of such tests if necessary if the Ministry of Education or other local authorities require conducting of pre joining tests.

How are you going to run the anatomy classes or labs either if online or on campus?

Anatomy can be effectively taught using a number of teaching methods. The lab session is just one of many teaching methods.  If no students are allowed on campus for health reasons, we will use other methods to teach the subject. This will apply to all other subjects having Labs.

Will I be entitled to a refund or compensation as a result of changes due to COVID-19?

A finance committee will study such requests. Generally, the student is refunded if the candidate was denied entry visa, international flights cancelation due to pandemics, or if the UAE law does not grant permit to stay as a result of any unexpected medical condition or illness.

I am feeling anxious and stressed due to Coronavirus (COVID-19).  What can I do?

You are advised to keep yourself aware and updated of the latest developments and try to use credible source of information. You can also request the support of the university counselor by contacting Counselor@mbru.ac.ae

Whom can I contact if I want to know more about student activities, counseling, student services, sports and wellness, student visas and more?

You can contact Student Services and Registration Department at  Student.Services@mbru.ac.ae for all the above services.

If I have concerns and I want to share them with the Student Council, how I can reach them?

You can share your concerns with the Department of Student Services and Registration, and they will connect you with the Student Council body for support. You will also be connected with the Guidance and Counseling Office at the university for appropriate support.

Can I apply for a medical insurance?

You can apply for the medical insurance if you have accepted the admission offer and paid the seat reservation fees. A basic medical insurance is provided by the university.

What are the visa fees?

Entry Permit Visa and the Residency Visa are issued by the university free of charge.

When should I apply for the visa?

Due to the COVID-19 crisis, Entry Permit Visa is pending until further notification from the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs in Dubai. We will communicate with students once updates are received from the concerned department.

I am an international student; will the university sponsor my visa?

The university provides international students who have accepted the admission offers, paid seat reservation fees and cleared all academic conditions (if any), with an Entry Permit Visa. Once the student joins officially as per the program start date in August, the Residency Visa will be issued.

Will students be able to participate in student activities?

Since the COVID-19 outbreak, most of the student activities and club activities were launched virtually using the available digital platforms. Depending on the situation at the beginning of the new academic year, the office of Student Life will be announcing such activities for students’ engagement and participation via emails, SMS, student groups and university social media platforms.

If we were to be on campus, will there be catering venues and food outlets?

Food outlets will remain open to cater for students and staff needs following extreme measures of safety and hygiene.

What types of safety measures does the university take to protect the students’ wellbeing during COVID times?

Aligned with the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Health and Prevention in the UAE directives, all standard safety measures will be implemented to ensure students and staff safety and wellbeing. An in house full time Guidance Counselor is available who can be approached via Counselor@mbru.ac.ae to discuss any challenges you may face during this crisis.

Will there be virtual campus tours and open house?

Yes, a virtual campus tour is available on our website. We are working on plans for next year if the open house is to be online. All updates and details will be posted on our website.

Will I have the opportunity to meet the current students at MBRU?  

As part of the orientation plan, pre-orientation group meetings or a panel discussion will be arranged with Student Council members and Class Representatives to share their experience at MBRU with the new joiners.

Is there a plan to change the starting date of the new academic year?

So far, the dates are fixed, and changes have not been considered.

How will student orientation look like?

There are a few scenarios that we are considering for the start of the First Semester. Depending on the scenario we adopt, orientation will be decided. It could be virtual or on campus with COVID-19 safety precautions being implemented. Students will be informed once it has been decided.

If classes continue online, how do I get technical support while working remotely?

The Helpdesk Office at MBRU will be active all the time and can be contacted via email, telephonically or through Teams to troubleshoot problems and resolving them remotely.

My School has been closed and I am worried about my exam performance!

You do not have to worry about your final performance results as all students around the world are facing the same situation. We recommend that you contact your school counselor and discuss your concerns with him/her.

I still need to submit my English proficiency results; what should I do as test centers are closed?

There is a newly introduced TOEFL iBT Special Home Edition test (TOEFL Test Takers), where you can take the test from home. More details on the TOEFL test is provided here – TOEFL® Institutions.

What grades will you consider given that final exams are cancelled?

We will use the same certificates issued by your examination board/school to determine whether the applicant meets the criteria or not.

I do not feel safe visiting the hospital nowadays, how can I complete the medical form?

Applicants have until the beginning of the academic year as per the program start date to submit the medical form. Hospitals are taking every measure to ensure the safety of patients/visitors and it should be safe to visit and conduct the required tests.

When can I start the attestation process?

Ministry of Education offers an online process in the attestation of documents. Please click here for more details.

How should I submit the original documents?

Applicants can submit the original attested documents directly to the Student Services & Registration Department at the start of the academic year. If we continue with online learning and working from home, we shall update you of the process.

As a postgraduate, could I still be working for my workplace during online learning for my masters’ degree?

Students are expected to be completing all their course requirements and attending their online classes. Therefore, any work commitments should not conflict with their studies.

Will there be a deduction in the tuition fee to help students with the current situation?

We know that the current situation has impacted all citizens of the globe in many aspects and our students and their families are not an exception. Note that although there will be no change in the tuition fees, there will be flexibility and lenience of payment deadlines which can be discussed and agreed on with the Finance Department.

How can I access the Library?

Students will have accounts created to access the online database and e-books. The access will be shared with students via MBRU email account.

How will you set up the Laptops and install the required software?

Enrolled students can approach the Helpdesk Office at MBRU in order to assist and install the required software.  This process can still be performed remotely.

How can I access the online classes?

All enrolled students will have access to the Learning Management System (LMS) and Microsoft Teams. User credentials will be shared with applicants via email.

If the COVID-19 prevails and if classes are going to be online, will the lectures be recorded for future reference?

Yes, the lectures will be recorded and posted on the Learning Management System (LMS).

Given the current situation, how will the classes be conducted at MBRU for the start of the academic year?

Kindly be informed that since the current situation is unpredictable, we are getting prepared for different scenarios which also include online learning. Depending on the Ministry of Education’s directives, the mode of teaching will be followed accordingly. The decision will be communicated to the accepted applicants.

Can I defer my application if studies will be through distance learning in case of COVID-19?

We will not be able to defer admissions due to the current COVID-19 pandemic since classes will be running online.

Fundamentals of Point-of-Care Ultrasound Certificate

Can I claim a refund if unable to participate in the program?

Please refer to the Refund Policy Section for detailed information.

Do the online sessions have to be finished before the hands-on activity?

Yes, trainees are required to complete and pass all the online quizzes before module 2 (hands-on practice). If they do not pass all the online quizzes before module 2, they will have another chance to repeat online quizzes and pass them before module 4.

What happens if I can’t attend the hands-on sessions on the MBRU campus?

During Modules 2 and 4, trainees are required to attend two days of face-to-face hands-on sessions to develop and refresh their skills. In force majeure circumstances that may affect the trainee’s ability to attend the hands-on sessions, special arrangements may be provided for the trainee to make up for the missed sessions after the approval of the program training committee. Applicants must provide valid supporting evidence to be considered by the training committee.

Will technical support be available during the program?

From module 2 to module 5, review and feedback by faculty will be available via an electronic platform.

Will technical support be available during the program?

This program extensively uses the MBRU learning management system (LMS) for publishing reading material and multimedia, as well as communicating with learners and submitting assignments. To access the LMS, you must have a web browser, and you will need your username and password (received upon registration). The program coordinator will be the main point of contact for any technical assistance.

What will happen if I don’t complete the e-Portfolio within the required time?

If the trainee is unable to complete the e-Portfolio prior to competency assessment, he/she will be granted a maximum of 6 months extension to complete the e-Portfolio and submit all requirements.

Can I save the ultrasound images?

Trainees will be able to save all the images they obtain during the face-to-face practice in module 2 & 4.

During module 3 & 5, trainees are required to have access to an ultrasound machine in their clinical workplace to practice POCUS scans. The POCUS scans must be saved in the machines and exported to a USB and then uploaded in an e-Portfolio. The scans should not include any patient identifiers. Trainees must sign a declaration form during the program application process emphasizing the importance of patient confidentiality and that the e-Portfolio POCUS scans are for educational purposes only and will not replace or interfere with usual medical care.

Who is this program aimed at?

This program is intended for practicing healthcare providers (interns, residents, fellows, physicians, nurses, and paramedics) who want to learn Point-of-Care Ultrasound. The program is geared primarily towards providers who care for acutely ill patients.

What ultrasound applications will I learn in this program?

The program is designed to provide trainees with the knowledge and skills in 5 basic POCUS applications, namely Lung, Cardiac, Trauma, First Trimester and Abdominal Aorta.

How long will the program take to complete?

One year of study delivered in a hybrid blended format over 6 modules.

Will I get updates on my performance and program status?

You will receive feedback from the faculty from module 2 and continue through module 5.

How is the MBRU Fundamentals of Point-of-Care Ultrasound Program different from the usual POCUS courses?

Obtaining competency in POCUS requires bedside scanning practice. This program is designed to provide trainees with comprehensive hands-on practice opportunities under direct faculty supervision during the face-to-face sessions in module 2 and module 4. In addition, trainees will have the opportunity to foster self-directed learning by completing an e-Portfolio of the POCUS scans from their clinical workplace. The e-Portfolio will be reviewed by a faculty member and trainees will receive feedback. The program will provide trainees with an educational experience that will foster ongoing scanning practice that places emphasis on high-quality image acquisition.

Are stipends available at MSc in Dentistry?

At HBMCDM, postgraduate students are not eligible for stipends.

I am currently studying in another university. Can I transfer credits to Dental college?

HBMCDM can accept applications from transfer students for the postgraduate programs. Their applications will be treated like all others. If the applicant meets the selection criteria, the Admissions team will review the courses completed at another university and will decide if the applicant is eligible for transfer of credit. The selected applicant will be notified of the decision.

How much is the tuition fees of MSc in Dentistry?

Library

Can I save documents on the Library computers?

Any documents saved on the C-Drive will automatically be deleted when the computer turns off. You may copy the documents on any external hard drives or copy to the temporary folder available on the T-Drive. Consult with the Library staff for assistance.

Is there a citation manager software available on the Library workstations?

EndNote Citation Manager software is available on all the Library computers.

Can I print articles in the Library?

Printing and photocopying facilities are available only for MBRU students, faculty and staff.

How do I find books on the shelf?

Consult the Library Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC) for the location code to find a book. The Library uses the National Library of Medicine Classification Scheme to arrange books in subject specialties. Shelf guides are available on the book stacks for ease of reference.

How do I search for a book?

The Library catalog is the starting point of all book searches in the Library. Patrons may search by keyword, title, author, subject, or ISBN. Library staff are available at the information desk to help locate books in the Library’s collection.

I need to install a program onto one of the Library computers, how can I do this?

You may consult with Library IT to install a program on a Library computer, however, it will automatically delete when the computer turns off.

How can I connect my laptop to the Library wireless network?

Information desk staff will provide the username and password. Library staff will also assist you to configure wireless network options on your laptop or any other mobile devices.

Can I check out periodicals or reference items?

Reference sources and journals are not available for loan, but they may be consulted in the Library.

How can I renew a book loan online?

Are there designated quiet areas?

The Library has one designated quiet study room. Six group study rooms and two individual study rooms are available on the second floor.

Can I reserve a meeting room?

Two meeting rooms are available in the Library and equipped with state-of-the-art AV technology. Library-registered members may book a meeting room by filling out the Library Room Reservation Form.

How do I borrow from the Library?

You must be a registered user to borrow from the Library. Please check the information desk for more information or email the Library at library@mbru.ac. Items may be checked out at the information desk or via the self check-out counter.

Is there a fee for registration?

There is currently no registration fee to use the Library.

Can I bring coffee or tea into the Library?

Coffee and tea may be consumed in sealed containers. Food is not allowed in the Library. Cafeteria facilities, vending machines and lounges are available on the first floor and ground floor.

 

How do I self check-out?

Self check-out guidelines are available at the self check-out counter, or ask for assistance at the information desk.

How can I register for Library training and orientation?

Registered patrons may register for training by contacting the Library at library@mbru.ac.ae.

How do I log in to use e-resources?

Log in using your user ID and PIN/password assigned by the Library.

How do I request a journal article that is not available?

How do I register for services?

All MBRU staff, students, residents and DHCC staff and community are eligible to register for services. The patron registration form is available here to be submitted to the Library. A valid ID copy is required for registration.

How can I find articles?

Search the Library’s e-journals list for electronic journals. Search the Discovery search option to locate journal articles. Additionally, articles may be sourced using the Open Access resources listed under Useful Resources.

Can members of the public use the Library?

All are welcome to use the Library and its facilities. Visitors are required to provide photo ID.

Are photocopying facilities available?

Black and white printing services are available within the acceptable use policy.

Where do I return books?

Books may be returned in the Book Drop available at the entrance of the Library or at the information desk.

How can I get help to use the Library’s resources?

Library staff are available to assist and direct patrons. A Librarian is assigned to handle all reference queries. Training sessions are also available for registered patrons. Updates on training are available on the Library portal.

Life at MBRU

Does the University provide accommodation?

How much is the tuition fees for the Master of Science in Biomedical Sciences?

The annual tuition fee for the program is AED 117,300. The tuition fee is payable in two installments (by the beginning of each semester) either by cheque or bank transfer.

What does the Admissions Committee evaluate in Master of Science in Biomedical Sciences when making the admission decisions?

Undergraduate studies performance, letters of recommendation, previous academic and / or professional experience are the main criteria for evaluation

What happens after I submit my Master of Science in Biomedical Sciences application?

Please note that for your application to be considered, you have to complete the online application, upload the required documents, and pay the application fee.  An experienced panel of MBRU faculty and staff will then review completed applications and will shortlist qualified candidates. Shortlisted candidates will be invited for interviews. Selection will be based on the applicant’s academic and professional credentials as well as performance in the interview. Yes, scholarships to cover tuition costs and stipends to cover living expenses are available for outstanding Emirati and international students based on merit. Basic health insurance and visa costs will also be covered as needed.

The annual tuition fees for the program are AED 69,000/year for the first 3 years and AED 55,200 in the final year. The tuition fee is payable by the beginning of academic year either by cheque or bank transfer.

What does the PhD-BMS Admissions Committee evaluate when making the admission decisions?

Undergraduate studies performance, letters of recommendation, previous academic and/or professional experience are the main criteria for evaluation. Matching the research topic interest with an appropriate faculty member is also important.

Graduate Medical Education

Which hospital will I be based at?

Our training programs are running across Dubai Health facilities, which include Rashid Hospital, Dubai Hospital, Latifa Hospital, Hatta Hospital, Primary Healthcare Centers, Specialized Centers, Medical Fitness Centers, Al Jalila Children’s Hospital, and Dental Hospital.

Can I postpone my start date?

Trainees are expected to start as per the training calendar.

How many times is the trainee entitled to transfer from one specialty to another?

Trainees are entitled for one specialty transfer during their training duration.

I’ve been accepted, what do I have to do now?

Offer acceptance is through the online application. This portal will have everything related to your enrollment and/or items that need to be completed before the first day of training.

Is the student in the internship year entitled to apply for admission to the graduate programs?

Internship students can apply to the residency program during their training, given that they complete the program by September before the beginning of the academic year. For application purposes, candidates will need to submit a ‘To Whom It May Concern’ letter confirming their enrollment in the Internship year and the expected completion/graduation date in order to consider their application.

Can non-national apply to the GME programs?

Admission to graduate medical education is open to all nationalities.

I don’t agree with the Portfolio evaluation; how can I object?

If the candidate doesn’t agree with the scoring, he/she can log in to the application and submit an appeal online along with the rationale within 48 hours. The committee will review the request and revert with the decision.

What does the interview process comprise?

Candidates will not be offered a place without going through the MMI and/or personal interview process. Details on the MMI process are available here for Residency Programs, here for Fellowship Programs, and here for Internship Programs.

How many specialties can I apply to?

Candidates may select up to two specialties for the Residency and Fellowship program

Is there an application fee and/or tuition fee?

The GME programs are free of charge except for the Endodontics Residency program and Dental Internship for Expats. The application fee of AED 650 for Residency & Fellowship and AED 230 for Internship is non-refundable and mandatory to consider an application complete.

Scholarship

How can I contact the scholarship department at MBRU?

Does the Scholarship Office accept petitions?

All scholarship decisions are final, and petitions are not accepted.

I am a postgraduate student who received an MBRU scholarship, what is the duration of my scholarship?

The duration of your MBRU scholarship lasts until you graduate, as long as you maintain good academic standing which is CGPA of 2.00.

 

As a new MBBS student, can I apply for Jood Scholarship without paying the seat reservation deposit?

New MBBS students that fail to pay the seat reservation deposit are not eligible to apply for Jood Scholarship.

I am an HBMCDM continuing student or an MBBS student, what is the deadline to apply for Jood Scholarship?

Deadlines for Jood Scholarship are available in the Jood Scholarship section on the scholarship page of the website

  • NOTE:  Applications submitted after the deadline will not be considered.
I am an HBMCDM continuing student or an MBBS student, how can I apply for Jood Scholarship?

Applications for Jood Scholarship are done via an online application form which is available on the scholarship page of the website.

  •  NOTE: It is a requirement for new students to pay the seat reservation fee to be eligible to apply for Jood Scholarship.
I am an HBMCDM continuing student, is it possible to combine Jood Scholarship and MBRU discount?

Yes, it is possible.

I am an MBBS student, what is the deadline to apply for Future Doctors Scholarship?

There is no application required for Future Doctors Scholarship. If you are eligible for Future Doctors scholarship, the Scholarship Office will inform you at the beginning of the academic year.

  • New students: eligibility will be based on admission ranking.
  • Continuing students: eligibility will be based on annual GPA.
Is it possible to combine any MBBS Scholarship with an external scholarship?

Yes, it is possible as long as it does not exceed 100% of the tuition fees.

Is it possible to combine any MBBS Scholarship with MBRU discount?

Yes, it is possible.

Can I combine more than one MBBS Scholarship?

You cannot combine two MBBS Scholarships. The Scholarship with the highest percentage will apply.

I am an MBBS student, how long does it take for the Future Doctors Scholarship to be announced?

Announcement dates for Future Doctors Scholarship are posted in the Future Doctors section on the scholarship page. Announcement dates vary for new students and currently enrolled students, so please check the dates carefully.

 

Simulation Center

How can I get more information?

Is there a prayer room?

Separate male and female prayer rooms are located on the ground floor of the building.

Is the Simulation Center wheelchair accessible?

The Simulation Center is accessible by wheelchair.

Are there taxis available nearby?

Taxis are available just outside the building.

Are there hotels nearby?

There are many hotels within walking distance of the center, which range from 4-5 stars.

Is there a metro station nearby?

Dubai Healthcare City (DHCC) metro station is just a few minutes walk from the Simulation Center.

Is parking available?

There are various paid parking areas available within walking distance to the Simulation Center.

How do I find the Simulation Center?

The Simulation Center is located on the second floor of the Mohammed Bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences, Building 14, DHCC, Dubai, U.A.E.

Is catering available on the course days?

Catering is provided for most courses. In addition, separate catering outlets are located in the building. Please inform us of any dietary requirements such as allergies.

All courses are CME (Continuing Medical Education) accredited. Please refer to individual course details for the exact number of CME hours for that particular course.
